She Says
Things are quite different now
in Mexico. At least that is what
I’m told by a close friend who
spends her days lying
on white beaches and making
love long into the night.
She says her skin has never
looked so brown and if it
wasn’t for her crimson hair
she’d look just like
the people who live there.
She says she’s not depressed
anymore because she can look
at the sun all day and
buy a good dinner for a dollar fifty
at night and dance for hours
after she’s had something to drink.
She says it wasn’t like
this when she first arrived, but
now that things are different
in Mexico she doesn’t want to
come home.
